by Sueli Loiola Adress: Avenida Paulista, 37 - Bela Vista Website: http://www.casadasrosas-sp.org.br/ Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 10pm, Sundays and holidays 10am – 6pm. The house was planned for Ramos de Azevedo. He was a famous architect in the 19th century. He helped to build some famous buildings in Sao Paulo, such as the Theatro Municipal (1903-1911), the Escola Politécnica of the University of Sao Paulo (1895) which is the most important school of engineering in Sao Paulo. This house was built in the 20s, inspired by French houses. It's important to notice that both the house and the garden were inspired by France. Sao Paulo in 20th century was itself inspired by France, so many buildings or gardens built at that time had that influence. His daughter and grandson lived in Casa das Rosas for a long time before it became a cultural centre. The house was considered a history patrimony in 1985. So, the houses needed restoration. After this, it was open to visit for free. It's a beautiful house and I assure you, it seems like you're coming back in time. The building is old but outside is new with a lot of buildings! It's interesting to notice how the history crosses in front of us! It's a wonderful place! | |
