By Sueli Loiola Ibirapuera Park – Gate 3 Thurday – Sunday, 10am to 6pm Ticketi Office: Until 5.30pm Site: www.mam.org.br Francisco Matarazzo founded the museum in 1948 which He had inspired for MoMa (US). At this time, another institutions of art in Brazil were founded as MASP and others organizations in cinema and theater area. MAM is localized between Oca and Bienal Pavilio; Niemyer designed each one in 1954. Thus, in MAM there’s an atelier, library, galleries, stores with products of MAM, restaurants and an auditorium able to receive 200 people. In addition, the MAM offers courses, visits with guide and every year they plan an art exhibition. In 2012, for example, we had exhibitions as Goeldi in June until August, Wolfgang Tillmans in March until May, etc. The museum organize each two years a Brazilian art exhibition called “Panorama da Arte Brasileira”, an important and traditional exhibition in Brazil. MAM’s website hasn’t English version, but even if you know a little Portuguese language – or you want to try – it’s a good website to take a look at browse highlight collection. You can access by artists, cathegory, etc. Once more museum in Sao Paulo that can become “a place that you need to visit when come to Sao Paulo.” | |

Review: Adam Palmer April 26th, 2013 A museum dedicated for Language (the only museum in the world dedicated to language) inside Luz Train Station, it gives visitors a complete vision about the development of the Portuguese Language. It was inaugurated in March 2006 and comprises of three halls. For us Brazilians, we have many reasons to be proud of the museum, mainly as It’s not easy to learn a language which changes almost every day and you will realize the complexity of Portuguese when you visit permanent exhibition hall. There you will discover the history and development of this language in Brazil. The most interesting section for me is the exhibits on accents in different regions, cultural expressions and changes in the language in past until now. The museum brings some fantastic and interesting writers in their temporary exhibition hall. Here you’ll learn of Jorge Amado, Clarice Lispector, Machado de Assis, Mario de Andrade and a lot of writers which wrote novels & articles you will have read. Some of them were born in Sao Paulo and write of the city’s history showing many cultural aspects; For example, Mario de Andrade wrote Macunaíma in 1928 (Modernism period) which shows aspects of Sao Paulo natives (but Mario was ironic most of time and was satirical in his work) and also you’ll also learn how Sao Paulo was during the 20’s and 30’s. But the development about literature and authors we shall learn about later. Also, you’ll see an amazing train station built in 1901 by the English. It has a replica of London’s Big Ben (a smaller version, but for me it’s awesome).
