by Sueli Loiola Martinelli's building was the tallest building in São Paulo in 30's. It's in Downtown, among three main streets: Avenida São João, Rua Libero Badaró and Rua São Bento. Giuseppe Martinelli conceived the initial plans but Willian Fillinger, a Hungarian architect, built it. Construction started in 1924 and finished in 1934 with 30 floors; the building was initially opened in 1929 with 12 floors At that time, to build something of Martinelli design was seen as art. Many artisan craftsmen were drafted to help in the building. Many skilled and talented artists from Italy, Spain and France contributed to the beauty of this building. With many old buildings, a rejuvenation and restoration is sometimes in order. With this in mind, the district closed the building temporarily in 1975, but re-opened in 1979. You'll find information online to arrange your visit to this amazing building that is an integral part of our architectural history. The building has three entries: R. Libero Badaró, 504 to 518. Rua São Bento, 397 to 413; Av. São João, 11 to 65; It's open on Monday to Friday for 9:30 am to 11 am and 2:30 pm to 4pm. You can schedule your visit with guide for Saturdays, for 9 am to 1pm in the link bellow. Site: www.prediomartinelli.com.br | |
